I'm Not Caring for Karen

I am so glad she is gone, although it is bad that it's not to the graveyard, and we all know that her replacement will be as bad if not worse than her!

She is a shining example of "government caring" in action. What I really hope is that her new co-workers at Motorola inflict some pain on her. I sure would.

A New Chapter??

I haven't done very well, actually the word horrible doesn't start to describe it, at updating this site in the last couple of years.

There are a number of reasons this happened, some of which I will explain in future posts, but I was informed by my employer of the last 11+ years that I am being laid off effective November 2.

Soooo, it is looking like the lack of time can be crossed off that list and since I will have more time on my hands I can start writing again.

I was already planning to do so, as the 2008 political season in actually in full swing, but I guess there is no time like the present as they say.

If you haven't read there is a little racial trouble down in the deep south again.

It seems that some of the bigotted, redneck youth in Jena, La decided to say that they got them a "white tree" at the schoolyard and that no colored folks can sit under the "white tree".

Sooo, one day a black student sits under the “white tree” and the very next day three, count them three, nooses appear on the “white tree”.

Now the school administrators are not amused by the nooses so they suspend tree white students and cut down the redneck's beloved “white tree”.

So last December six black students beat a white student, and they get themselved arrested. Five of them were with attempted second-degree murder, but now those have been for four of them. The last was arrained as a juvenile.

Now the master race baiters, good ol' Al and Jesse are outraged, I tell you outraged, that the black boys are being charged with beating that white boy. I bet what is really the root cause of their outrage is that there hasn't been any manufactured racially tensie situations in quite awhile, and I guess their bank accounts were starting to look pretty bad.

Hell anyone can see the white boy deserved to be beaten. Hell they had a damn “white tree” and they hung nooses on it, and I bet that he was looking at innocent little black girls in a lascivious manner.

And now there are rallys springing up all over the country in support of the “Jena Six”.

How freakin' stupid have we become as a nation that we can't differentiate the difference between the racist, boarish behaviour of a bunch of redneck youth, and the brutal, thuggish criminal acts commited by the so called “Jena Six”?

Is it now permissiable to beat someone if they offend you?

Is it permissiable if they degrade your race? Your religion?

So the next time a black man calls a white man a “cracka” or “white boy” or “honkey” he can round up five his friends and beat the living snot out of that black man right?

No! you say? They should be charged with a “Hate Crime”?

Double standards like this are at the heart of what is wrong with our society. All crime is hate crime! Yet are are not supose to those that deprive others of their freedom, property or liberty responsible for their actions if they are members of some protected class.

There is always an excuse for their antisocial behaviour and actions. This my friends is the reason we will never truly be able to move past looking at the color of a person's skin, and at the content of their character.

This ruling by the 4th Circuit Court should have turned all the stomachs in America, but it did not and will not.

I can hear all the refrains of "It can't happen to me because I haven't done anything wrong". Well for all We the People know neither has Mr. Padilla. The government is afraid to give him and hearing, and he has not been charged with a crime, so why should we expect that he is guilty of one?

Now I am not saying that Padilla isn't a bad guy, he may be associated with al-Qaida, but for this country to maintain the freedoms it was built on, a few basic legal concepts must be followed, and the rights to face your accusers, see the evidence against you and a speedy trial are two of the most basic you have.

This guy is a US citizen, and it his rights can be violated then not one of us is safe, but as usual no one really cares, yet.

THIS piece is almost 2 years old, but in light of some things that have been going on, it is more important now than it was back then.

Katherine Yurica seems to be on to something. Something that needs to be exposed to the light of day, and looked at critically. She lays it out in plain english as seen here:

Since neo-conservatives influenced by Strauss are in control of the Bush administration, I have prepared a brief list that shows the radical unchristian basis of neo-conservatism. First: Strauss believed that a leader had to perpetually deceive the citizens he ruled.

Secondly: Those who lead must understand there is no morality, there is only the right of the superior to rule the inferior.

Thirdly: According to Drury, Religion “is the glue that holds society together.”[40] It is a handle by which the ruler can manipulate the masses. Any religion will do. Strauss is indifferent to them all.

Fourthly: “Secular society…is the worst possible thing,” because it leads to individualism, liberalism, and relativism, all of which encourage dissent and rebellion. As Drury sums it up: “You want a crowd that you can manipulate like putty.”[41]

Fifthly: “Strauss thinks that a political order can be stable only if it is united by an external threat; and following Machiavelli, he maintains that if no external threat exists, then one has to be manufactured.”[42]

Sixthly: “In Strauss’s view, the trouble with liberal society is that it dispenses with noble lies and pious frauds. It tries to found society on secular rational foundations.”

Her connecting the Neo-Cons to Lee Strauss and through his teachings to Machiavelli is fact not fiction, and not something heard in the mainstream media.

I ran into this years ago, but it seems that I am not the only one that thinks it is timely.

by Edward S. Ellis (Philadelphia: Porter & Coates, 1884)

Crockett was then the lion of Washington. I was a great admirer of his character, and, having several friends who were intimate with him, I found no difficulty in making his acquaintance. I was fascinated with him, and he seemed to take a fancy to me.

I was one day in the lobby of the House of Representatives when a bill was taken up appropriating money for the benefit of a widow of a distinguished naval officer. Several beautiful speeches had been made in its support – rather, as I thought, because it afforded the speakers a fine opportunity for display than from the necessity of convincing anybody, for it seemed to me that everybody favored it. The Speaker was just about to put the question when Crockett arose. Everybody expected, of course, that he was going to make one of his characteristic speeches in support of the bill. He commenced:

"Mr. Speaker – I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as much sympathy for the sufferings of the living, if suffering there be, as any man in this House, but we must not permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy for a part of the living to lead us into an act of injustice to the balance of the living. I will not go into an argument to prove that Congress has no power to appropriate this money as an act of charity. Every member upon this floor knows it. We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right so to appropriate a dollar of the public money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us upon the ground that it is a debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the deceased lived long after the close of the war; he was in office to the day of his death, and I have never heard that the government was in arrears to him. This government can owe no debts but for services rendered, and at a stipulated price. If it is a debt, how much is it? Has it been audited, and the amount due ascertained? If it is a debt, this is not the place to present it for payment, or to have its merits examined. If it is a debt, we owe more than we can ever hope to pay, for we owe the widow of every soldier who fought in the War of 1812 precisely the same amount. There is a woman in my neighborhood, the widow of as gallant a man as ever shouldered a musket. He fell in battle. She is as good in every respect as this lady, and is as poor. She is earning her daily bread by her daily labor; but if I were to introduce a bill to appropriate five or ten thousand dollars for her benefit, I should be laughed at, and my bill would not get five votes in this House. There are thousands of widows in the country just such as the one I have spoken of, but we never hear of any of these large debts to them. Sir, this is no debt. The government did not owe it to the deceased when he was alive; it could not contract it after he died. I do not wish to be rude, but I must be plain. Every man in this House knows it is not a debt. We cannot, without the grossest corruption, appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We have not the semblance of authority to appropriate it as a charity. Mr. Speaker, I have said we have the right to give as much of our own money as we please. I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week's pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks."

He took his seat. Nobody replied. The bill was put upon its passage, and, instead of passing unanimously, as was generally supposed, and as, no doubt, it would, but for that speech, it received but few votes, and, of course, was lost.

Like many other young men, and old ones, too, for that matter, who had not thought upon the subject, I desired the passage of the bill, and felt outraged at its defeat. I determined that I would persuade my friend Crockett to move a reconsideration the next day.

Previous engagements preventing me from seeing Crockett that night, I went early to his room the next morning and found him engaged in addressing and franking letters, a large pile of which lay upon his table.

I broke in upon him rather abruptly, by asking him what devil had possessed him to make that speech and defeat that bill yesterday. Without turning his head or looking up from his work, he replied:

"You see that I am very busy now; take a seat and cool yourself. I will be through in a few minutes, and then I will tell you all about it."

He continued his employment for about ten minutes, and when he had finished he turned to me and said:

"Now, sir, I will answer your question. But thereby hangs a tale, and one of considerable length, to which you will have to listen."

I listened, and this is the tale which I heard:

Several years ago I was one evening standing on the steps of the Capitol with some other members of Congress, when our attention was attracted by a great light over in Georgetown. It was evidently a large fire. We jumped into a hack and drove over as fast as we could. When we got there, I went to work, and I never worked as hard in my life as I did there for several hours. But, in spite of all that could be done, many houses were burned and many families made homeless, and, besides, some of them had lost all but the clothes they had on. The weather was very cold, and when I saw so many women and children suffering, I felt that something ought to be done for them, and everybody else seemed to feel the same way.

The next morning a bill was introduced appropriating $20,000 for their relief. We put aside all other business and rushed it through as soon as it could be done. I said everybody felt as I did. That was not quite so; for, though they perhaps sympathized as deeply with the sufferers as I did, there were a few of the members who did not think we had the right to indulge our sympathy or excite our charity at the expense of anybody but ourselves. They opposed the bill, and upon its passage demanded the yeas and nays. There were not enough of them to sustain the call, but many of us wanted our names to appear in favor of what we considered a praiseworthy measure, and we voted with them to sustain it. So the yeas and nays were recorded, and my name appeared on the journals in favor of the bill.

The next summer, when it began to be time to think about the election, I concluded I would take a scout around among the boys of my district. I had no opposition there, but, as the election was some time off, I did not know what might turn up, and I thought it was best to let the boys know that I had not forgot them, and that going to Congress had not made me too proud to go to see them.

So I put a couple of shirts and a few twists of tobacco into my saddlebags, and put out. I had been out about a week and had found things going very smoothly, when, riding one day in a part of my district in which I was more of a stranger than any other, I saw a man in a field plowing and coming toward the road. I gauged my gait so that we should meet as he came to the fence. As he came up I spoke to the man. He replied politely, but, as I thought, rather coldly, and was about turning his horse for another furrow when I said to him: "Don't be in such a hurry, my friend; I want to have a little talk with you, and get better acquainted."

He replied: "I am very busy, and have but little time to talk, but if it does not take too long, I will listen to what you have to say."

I began: "Well, friend, I am one of those unfortunate beings called candidates, and – "

"'Yes, I know you; you are Colonel Crockett. I have seen you once before, and voted for you the last time you were elected. I suppose you are out electioneering now, but you had better not waste your time or mine. I shall not vote for you again.'

This was a sockdolager... I begged him to tell me what was the matter.

"Well, Colonel, it is hardly worthwhile to waste time or words upon it. I do not see how it can be mended, but you gave a vote last winter which shows that either you have not capacity to understand the Constitution, or that you are wanting in honesty and firmness to be guided by it. In either case you are not the man to represent me. But I beg your pardon for expressing it in that way. I did not intend to avail myself of the privilege of the Constitution to speak plainly to a candidate for the purpose of insulting or wounding you. I intend by it only to say that your understanding of the Constitution is very different from mine; and I will say to you what, but for my rudeness, I should not have said, that I believe you to be honest. But an understanding of the Constitution different from mine I cannot overlook, because the Constitution, to be worth anything, must be held sacred, and rigidly observed in all its provisions. The man who wields power and misinterprets it is the more dangerous the more honest he is."

"I admit the truth of all you say, but there must be some mistake about it, for I do not remember that I gave any vote last winter upon any constitutional question."

"No, Colonel, there's no mistake. Though I live here in the backwoods and seldom go from home, I take the papers from Washington and read very carefully all the proceedings of Congress. My papers say that last winter you voted for a bill to appropriate $20,000 to some sufferers by a fire in Georgetown. Is that true?"

"Certainly it is, and I thought that was the last vote which anybody in the world would have found fault with."

"Well, Colonel, where do you find in the Constitution any authority to give away the public money in charity?"

Here was another sockdolager; for, when I began to think about it, I could not remember a thing in the Constitution that authorized it. I found I must take another tack, so I said:

"Well, my friend; I may as well own up. You have got me there. But certainly nobody will complain that a great and rich country like ours should give the insignificant sum of $20,000 to relieve its suffering women and children, particularly with a full and overflowing Treasury, and I am sure, if you had been there, you would have done just as I did."

"It is not the amount, Colonel, that I complain of; it is the principle. In the first place, the government ought to have in the Treasury no more than enough for its legitimate purposes. But that has nothing to do with the question. The power of collecting and disbursing money at pleasure is the most dangerous power that can be entrusted to man, particularly under our system of collecting revenue by a tariff, which reaches every man in the country, no matter how poor he may be, and the poorer he is the more he pays in proportion to his means. What is worse, it presses upon him without his knowledge where the weight centers, for there is not a man in the United States who can ever guess how much he pays to the government. So you see, that while you are contributing to relieve one, you are drawing it from thousands who are even worse off than he. If you had the right to give anything, the amount was simply a matter of discretion with you, and you had as much right to give $20,000,000 as $20,000. If you have the right to give to one, you have the right to give to all; and, as the Constitution neither defines charity nor stipulates the amount, you are at liberty to give to any and everything which you may believe, or profess to believe, is a charity, and to any amount you may think proper. You will very easily perceive what a wide door this would open for fraud and corruption and favoritism, on the one hand, and for robbing the people on the other. No, Colonel, Congress has no right to give charity. Individual members may give as much of their own money as they please, but they have no right to touch a dollar of the public money for that purpose. If twice as many houses had been burned in this county as in Georgetown, neither you nor any other member of Congress would have thought of appropriating a dollar for our relief. There are about two hundred and forty members of Congress. If they had shown their sympathy for the sufferers by contributing each one week's pay, it would have made over $13,000. There are plenty of wealthy men in and around Washington who could have given $20,000 without depriving themselves of even a luxury of life. The Congressmen chose to keep their own money, which, if reports be true, some of them spend not very creditably; and the people about Washington, no doubt, applauded you for relieving them from the necessity of giving by giving what was not yours to give. The people have delegated to Congress, by the Constitution, the power to do certain things. To do these, it is authorized to collect and pay moneys, and for nothing else. Everything beyond this is usurpation, and a violation of the Constitution."

I have given you an imperfect account of what he said. Long before he was through, I was convinced that I had done wrong. He wound up by saying:

"So you see, Colonel, you have violated the Constitution in what I consider a vital point. It is a precedent fraught with danger to the country, for when Congress once begins to stretch its power beyond the limits of the Constitution, there is no limit to it, and no security for the people. I have no doubt you acted honestly, but that does not make it any better, except as far as you are personally concerned, and you see that I cannot vote for you."

I tell you I felt streaked. I saw if I should have opposition, and this man should go talking, he would set others to talking, and in that district I was a gone fawn-skin. I could not answer him, and the fact is, I did not want to. But I must satisfy him, and I said to him:

"Well, my friend, you hit the nail upon the head when you said I had not sense enough to understand the Constitution. I intended to be guided by it, and thought I had studied it full. I have heard many speeches in Congress about the powers of Congress, but what you have said there at your plow has got more hard, sound sense in it than all the fine speeches I ever heard. If I had ever taken the view of it that you have, I would have put my head into the fire before I would have given that vote; and if you will forgive me and vote for me again, if I ever vote for another unconstitutional law I wish I may be shot."

He laughingly replied:

It has always amazed me that the same person that will never go back to a resturant because they recieved bad service there 10 years ago is more than willing to support sending more money to the government when they provide bad service.

We have spent tens of billions, possibly hundreds of billions, on Homeland Security to protect us from and clean up after a terrorist attack but look at what we recieved for all those tax dollars.

Pretty much anyone in the country knew Katrina was coming and about where she would hit. This is different that a terrorist attack , which by it's very nature is a suprise. So when a system designed to work in case of a suprise attack fails to function at even a minimum level when an anticipated event occurs, it is not just a failure, but a gross failure.

Yet the politicians are clamoring for more dollars to fix the system. Yup that was the problem not enough money spent on Homeland Security, FEMA, The War in Iraq...

Well here is another "Criminal" of the Katrina disaster.

First there was Chief Arthur Lawson, now I would like you to meet Rep. William Jefferson.

With the news today that the state has brought the owners of a nursing home up on murder charges for not evacuating the residents of their home, I think Chief Lawson should get the same treatment. Who knows how many deaths he is responsible for. I am sure that the total is potentially more than the 34 that died in the nursing home.

And then there is the Dishonorable Rep. Willy. This Asshat really needs to recieve a good ass whipping from the people of LA.

Just one more example of our fine Government at work. After the billions poured down the government rat hole for so-called "Homeland Security" after 9/11, emergency services are at best in the same pitiful state as before the WTC came down.

So what happened to all those billions?

Now the politicians are already calling for more money to "fix the system". Does this sound familiar to anyone? Where are the "fixes" we already paid for? All I saw was government agencies and their minions slowing or stopping the relief efforts.

I say enough money has been spent and it is time that we all save some money. And we do this by taking all emergency response systems, and the money, away from incompetent politicians, and put it back under local community control.

And by local community control I mean local communities, not just the cities, villages, townships, but neighborhoods organized to take care of themselves for the at least the first 96 hours after a disaster.

How they do this is up to them. It could be by training residents to function as Medical First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics. It could be by hiring a private company to provide these services, but however it is done it is up to these small groups to do it.

This way if it is not done well, there will be no finger pointing or scapegoating as everyone will know where and who is responsible for any failures in the system.

Don't like this idea? Don't trust your neighbors? Well then I have another idea for you. It is called self reliance. It means taking care of these things yourself.

I was amazed to see able bodied people sitting, waiting passively for someone to come "save" them. I bet in many cases help never did come. The "help" was too busy protecting Rep. Willy's stuff.

What Katrina should have taught all of us one thing. You cannot count on help coming to you, so you have to be be your own help, kind of like this guy.

Someone should see that Chief Arthur Lawson is, at minimum, brought up on civil rights charges and if it can be proved that anyone he turned back died, 1st degree murder.

I can understand wanting to keep order in your town, and there where ways that he could have kept order and gotten those people out of harms way. Instead he basically served as judge, jury and most likely executioner.

As for the claims of racism, I doubt it. This was class-ism, seeing as he wasn't letting white people out either.

A Thousand Wacos, A Thousand Ruby Ridges

The Supreme Court of the United States has officially declared that you do not have a right to own property, despite the protection of the Fifth Amendment, using the flimsy excuse that "just compensation" can be determined by the municipality that wishes to steal the land from its rightful owner.

This decision, I believe (and in some ways hope, despite myself) will lead to a thousand Wacos and a thousand Ruby Ridges.

Here is my vow and I hope that all of you who read this will take a similar pledge and stand by it:

I vow that if a government entity attempts to take my property from me, for whatever reason, I will stand firm and protect my property with words, physical force, and even with force of arms if necessary. I will not relent in my protection of my property until I have received a fair settlement, the government entity wishing to take my land has relented, or my dead body is plowed under by their bulldozers.

I hope every other property owner in this nation will take a similar vow and back it up by owning and knowing how to use a rifle. The Supreme Court does not speak for the people of the United States of America! Show them that!

Now this goes too far for even me, but not for the reasons most would think. Also note how I am not advocating any passing of new laws to ban it?

What this is, is a big ol' scam separating fools and their money, but it really doesn't rise to the level of something illegal any more than the "Sink a Basket" or "Ring Toss" games at the carnival do.

First of all unless your worse off than Stephen Hawkings, I could get you out in the woods to hunt. So the "We're doing it for the disabled" is a sham since they do not require that you be disabled to become a member. Who there actual "target", so to speak, audience is the maladjusted that think it would be cool to "kill something", and for an extra $9.95 you can get it on DVD, not the disabled!

Secondly firing an accurate shot over the Internet would be next to impossible, as the image takes time to make it to you, then your fire command takes time to be received at the other end. As someone that has logged quite a few hours in the woods and plains behind a gun, it is not as easy as point it and something falls over dead.

Even with all the sensory input of being there in person it is not an easy thing to even hit something let alone product a one shot kill. If I am not sure that a shot will produce a kill or a be a total miss, I will not pull the trigger. Doing this via the net will be a very hard thing to pull off, more luck than anything else, but you get to "practice" first by shooting at paper or silhouette targets.

Sounds good doesn't it, hone your mad skillz on paper before going after the real big game? But paper and silhouette targets do not move, so I could have my shot fired 5 hours after I viewed and aimed at the stationary target and they would still hit the target.

So what is will be is a be money maker for the owners, and I bet no animals will be harmed in bringing you this website.

I heard for years that there is no money in conservation, and that Libertarians would trash the planet, well here is how a free market system really works.

When a problem/service/product becomes important enough to people that they will make purchasing decisions based on their core beliefs, then the market will rise to the occasion by creating a solution/product that meets the consumers needs.

Government cannot do this, because all they ever provide is a one size fits all solution, and if the solution is an incorrect one, it does matter, as government does not have to adapt to market pressures.

Like I have said before, if you are willing to propose a solution to a problem you need to be willing to put YOUR money where your mouth is, and this is an excellent example of what I mean by that.

It is also a fine example of what a free market system can do to improve both the ecology and the economy.

Alright people, this is what being a patriotic American is truly all about.

True patriotism is not about blinding following the Governmental Dictators or swallowing the sludge they spew.

True Patriotism is about following the basic, very simple principles that this country was founded on.

Hell these principles are so simple that a certain group of 9-12 year olds I know scored a combined average of 98% on a test regarding the Rights contained in the Bill of Right and the Constitution usually given to young adults. Not a single kid in the group scored lower than a 92%

Most adults, over 65%, totally fail this test, and mind you these kids did not spend weeks studying these documents in a classroom somewhere, in fact less than a weeks ago was the first time most had even laided eyes on either and with a couple of hours of studying over a few days, they where about to excel.

Now this bring me back to Mr Gilmore, I bet he could pass with flying colors too.

We need to say a big, fat NO to government invasions of our liberties, no matter how small they may seem at first because someday very soon even the most ignorant amongst us will be able to see what we have lost.
