“The very core of liberty secured by our Anglo-Saxon system of separated powers has been freedom from indefinite imprisonment at the will of the executive.” – Judge Antonin Scalia

After reading that quote, take a look at these stories regarding the Padilla ruling HERE or HERE or HERE.

This ruling by the 4th Circuit Court should have turned all the stomachs in America, but it did not and will not.

I can hear all the refrains of "It can't happen to me because I haven't done anything wrong". Well for all We the People know neither has Mr. Padilla. The government is afraid to give him and hearing, and he has not been charged with a crime, so why should we expect that he is guilty of one?

Now I am not saying that Padilla isn't a bad guy, he may be associated with al-Qaida, but for this country to maintain the freedoms it was built on, a few basic legal concepts must be followed, and the rights to face your accusers, see the evidence against you and a speedy trial are two of the most basic you have.

This guy is a US citizen, and it his rights can be violated then not one of us is safe, but as usual no one really cares, yet.
