2004 - Year of the Slave

One Last Chance to beat H.R 10

D o w n s i z e r - D i s p a t c h

|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|

Dear friends,

It's always harder to undue - to repeal - a bad law,
then it is to stop its passage. And our Electronic
Lobbyist system at DownsizeDC.org just set another
record. I'll tell you about both in this action
bulletin and progress report.

The House has passed HR 10. They've officially rejected
the Senate's version. Now, the ball is in the Senate's
court. Either they must approve the House version, or
the House and Senate go to Conference Committee to
hammer out the differences.

That's why our NEW campaign is so important. We must
hold each Senator's feet to the fire. And we must give
each House member an increasing sense that they're on
the Titanic with this issue.

We must "Attack, Attack, Attack" now. You can attack
from your laptop or PC at www.DownsizeDC.org

By now, everyone has heard John Kerry's famous flip-
flop line, "I actually voted for the $87 billion,
before I voted against it." Kerry used that line
because he didn't expect it to cause him any trouble.
You see, legislators butter both sides of the bread all
the time. It's routine.

That way they can go home and appeal to any constituent
they meet. To those who were for Issue X they can say,
"I commend you're passion, that's why I voted for it."
To those against Issue X they can say, "I feel your
pain, that's why I voted against it."

According to "The Hill", a Capitol Hill Newspaper, in a
story titled, "House GOP dares Dems to vote 'no'," HR
10 was all about political grandstanding right before
Election Day. They've voted.

Now their grandstanding is done.

Now, they can tell their constituents they were tough
on terrorism - they fought for national security.

Now, we can give them the chance to remove the most
heinous portions of this bill, which, according to Gun
Owners of America includes...

(1) The government database is created by section
2173 of HR 10. It would allow airline passengers
to be screened against lists containing "all
appropriate records." What would be "appropriate"
would be within the exclusive discretion of the
bureaucrats, but could include medical records,
confidential financial records, library records,
and gun records - maybe even your politically
incorrect public statements and affiliations.

Note: regulators have already signaled that they
will take this as a mandate to create a national
ID database, and the House has done nothing to
counter this idea. This is one of a host of tricks
politicians use to be able to claim that they're
not really doing what they are in fact doing.
Don't be fooled!

(2) The driver's license standards are in section
3052. They would allow the federal government to
set standards as high as desired to determine who
may or may not obtain a driver's license. Please
note that you need a driver's license (or
similarly regulated state-issued photo ID) to
purchase a gun from a dealer. But, increasingly,
you also need it to travel on any form of
transportation (airplane, bus, train, car), to
get a job, to open a checking account, to cash a
check, to check into a hotel, to rent a car, or
to purchase cigarettes or alcohol. If the federal
government can set standards so high as to deny
you a driver's license or photo ID, it has
effectively turned you into a non-person.

(3) Section 2142 would allow the U.S. attorney
general to promulgate any regulations he
desires concerning
(a) what employers must submit the names and
fingerprints of all employment applicants
to the FBI,
(b) what standards the government will use in
approving or disapproving the employment
applicants, and
(c) whether or not the government's "disapproval"
will prevent the applicant from being hired.

There is nothing in section 2142 which would prohibit
an attorney general from
(a) requiring the resumes and fingerprints of every
employment applicant in the country,
(b) disapproving them on the basis of gun ownership
or, for that matter, any factor he viewed as not
being politically correct, and
(c) prohibiting any employer from hiring an
applicant thus blacklisted.

(4) Plus this bill is so full of hastily- and ill-
conceived anti-gun, anti-freedom provisions that
you would need hours to learn them all.

And as if that's not enough,

(5) H.R. 10 will seek more integration of our foreign
policy with that of the U.N. (Section 4032).

(6) H.R. 10 will train U.S. diplomats to be more
attuned with the United Nations and the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) and other anti-democratic globalist
organizations (Section 4034).

(7) H.R. 10 will create a new U.S. "ambassador-at-
large" to work with U.N. nongovernmental
organizations or NGOs. This would set a very
dangerous precedent (Section 4035).

On top of all that, according to _Wired News_, HR 10
would also do the following...

(1) allow employers to run background checks on
employees that could include records of arrests
and detentions - not just convictions - as well as
no limitation on republishing such information

(2) speed up the implementation of the newest airline
passenger screening system, Secure Flight, by
requiring congressional approval after it is
deployed, not before

(3) require the State Department to study the
feasibility of a worldwide database tracking
American citizens'' and foreigners' 'lifetime
travel history,' including information on what
countries Americans traveled to

(4) require the State Department to intervene with
foreign media outlets and foreign governments to
influence media coverage

(5) make it easier for the government to deport
immigrants to countries where they might be
tortured or to countries to which an immigrant has
no relationship

(6) expand Patriot Act wiretap provisions and the ban
on material support to designated terrorist
organizations

(7) make it tougher for illegal immigrants to get a
hearing to protest deportation

(8) prevent states from issuing driver's licenses to
undocumented aliens by changing what documents are
acceptable at Canadian and Mexican borders"

You can see why I call it, "the Patriot Act on
Steroids." That's why you must take action now - before
it's too late - at www.DownsizeDC.org

_Wired News_ also reports that,

Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Connecticut), who co-authored
the Senate's version of the bill, has serious
concerns about the House bill, according to
spokeswoman Leslie Phillips. "The House bill includes
several provisions regarding law enforcement and
immigration that were not raised by the 9/11
Commission and (that) the commission has explicitly
asked be removed," Phillips said. The Senate bill is
also superior because it contains a number of civil
liberties and privacy protections, including an
independent civil liberties board, according to
Phillips.

As you can see, we've got a chance but only with
MASSIVE ACTION RIGHT NOW.

Step 1) Go to www.DownsizeDC.org and use our Electronic
Lobbyist System to tell both your Representative and
your Senators what you think. In the P.S. below, I have
some important instructions for first time users of our
site.

Step 2) Use our "Tell a Friend" procedure at the
website, OR send this message. The more people who join
you, the greater our likelihood of success is.

Step 3) Make a contribution, or better yet, a monthly
pledge. We have no ads on the air right now. We've gone
"you-know-what to the wall" on this issue and we're
spread thin. Here's the link
http://www.DownsizeDC.org/contribute.shtml

I promised at the beginning of this message that I
would tell you about another new Electronic Lobbyist
record at www.DownsizeDC.org. Our previous best months
for first time users were September, where we
registered 513 new users, and July (our first month),
where we registered 593 new DC Downsizers. Yesterday,
we broke that record - even though October isn't even
half over.

The record-breaking figure as of 12:28 PM Eastern is
619 (remember, MoveOn started with just 100 people).

Please join the now more than 1,850 registered DC
Downsizers and take action now. You don't have to
dislike every portion of this bill. We've given you 15
bad provisions. If you only hate a dozen of them, that
should be enough to get you fired up and ready to do
something. Please, go to
http://www.DownsizeDC.org
right now and use your Electronic Lobbyist system to
make your voice heard.

Jim Babka
President
DownsizeDC.org, Inc.

P.S. If you're a FIRST TIME USER of our Electronic
Lobbyist system, these tips will be VERY HELPFUL to
you.

1) Go to http://www.DownsizeDC.org

2) Click on the first campaign listed there titled,
"New Stop National ID Database"

3) First time visitors need to register. This
registration process will identify your representative
for you, AND will put your contact information on your
PERSONALIZED letter to your Representative and Senators
- in other words, they'll know this message is coming
from a constituent.

4) Skip over the section labeled, "Already registered?"
if you've never registered before. This step is for
repeat users who are registered - a time saver so they
don't have to register again, and again, each time they
visit.

5) Fill out the section COMPLETELY under the heading,
"Visiting for the first time? Then go through this
simple form..."

6) To take advantage of the time-saving benefits of
registering, check "Yes, please register my account."

7) Note: YOU need to choose your own password. The
system will NOT do it for you. CHOOSE A PASSWORD YOU
CAN EASILY REMEMBER. We're making improvements in our
system all the time, but this last step easily causes
the most problems for new, and first-time returning
visitors.

Threat Level is Now - RED++

Well I have gotten little or no comments/feedback here, so I have no idea if anyone reads most of this, but no matter I will soldier on.

I am setting the Threat Level to We the People at RED++, and I have little hope that anything can or will be done about it.

We have a EVIL Bastard as Attorney General - an EVIL Bastard who lost an election to a Dead Guy.

We have a EVIL Bastard as President - an EVIL Bastard who has crushed our freedom, RAISED our Taxes, and Duped us into endless war.

We have an EVIL Bastard who wants to be President - an EVIL Bastard who Claims to be a War Hero in another EVIL war, but who's actionsand assertions after his 4 whole months in country, lead to the mistreatment of his fellow soldiers at the hands of the enemy.

We have a bunch of EVIL Bastards in Congress - EVIL Bastards who at every turn Wipe their Lobbyist Encrusted Asses with the Constitution

We have an ignorant Electorate that cannot stop believing and electing these EVIL Bastards

And if you doubt my assertion that Iraq is an endless war, read this Why We Cannot Win

Top 10 Secrets They Don't Want You to Know About the Debates

The Following is from Conne Rice's piece "Top 10 Secrets They Don't Want You to Know About the Debates", please check it out for the full story on each of these points.

10. They aren't debates!

9. The debates were hijacked from the truly independent League of Women Voters in 1986.

8. The "independent and non-partisan" Commission on Presidential Debates is neither independent nor non-partisan.

7. The secretly negotiated debate contract bars Kerry and Bush from any and all other debates for the entire campaign.

6. The debate contract effectively excludes all other serious presidential candidates from participating in the debates.

5. All members of the studio audience must be certified as "soft" supporters of Bush and Kerry, under selection procedures they approve.

4. These "soft" audience members must "observe in silence."

3. The "extended discussion" portion of the debate cannot exceed 30 seconds.

2. Important issues are locked out by the CPD debate rules and party control.

1. Fortune 100 corporations are the main funders of the CPD-sponsored debates, and the CPD's co-chairs are corporate lobbyists.

How to Undo H.R. 10

D o w n s i z e r - D i s p a t c h

|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|*|

In this message:

* The House approves the national ID database
* What we must do to counter this
* The results of what we have done so far (lots of
people are joining you)
* The implications of the next terrorist attack
* Other news

The House has passed HR 10 with the national ID
database provisions intact. In fact, all the heinous
provisions we told you got through.

We have updated our web page accordingly with a brand
new campaign. The Senate has passed a much different
bill, so they still have to act on this issue. They
could either accept the bill or negotiate it point-by-
point in a Conference Committee. Then, if it passes,
the President has to sign or veto the bill. That's why
we must . . .

* Bombard the House with requests to undo what they
just did (they'll vote on this issue at least one
more time).

* Bombard the Senate with requests not to approve what
the House has done (your Senators have been added to
the Electronic Lobbyist system as an additional
target for your messages on this issue).

* Bombard the President with requests to veto this
bill when it comes to his desk.

Now pause and consider for a moment what the 9-11
attack has done to our country (on top of the death and
destruction suffered that day):

* The Patriot Act has chipped away at many of our
most basic Constitutional rights.

* Patriot Act II is waiting in the wings to do even
more damage.

* The Homeland Security Department has been created,
adding another layer of bureaucracy and expense to
an already bloated federal government.

* Another un-winnable guerrilla war, like Vietnam, is
being waged in Iraq, a country that had nothing to
do with 9-11.

* And now the House of Representatives has begun
laying the foundation for a national identification
system that will entangle all of us in its
bureaucratic web.

Meanwhile, despite all the money we pay in taxes, and
the massive size and resources of our intelligence
agencies, our government has still failed to hire the
translators it needs to decipher most of the telephone
calls and email messages it intercepts.

Any one of these messages could contain the plans for
the next terrorist attack, and yet the politicians are
busy transgressing our rights instead of using the
resources it already has to protect us.

This defines how big government operates. The
government has the resources to do its job, but it
fails anyway. Then it uses this failure as an excuse to
grab more resources and more power, at our expense. And
then it fails again, starting the whole process over
again.

* Why do we need a Department of Homeland Defense?
Isn't that what the Pentagon is for?

* Why do we need a Patriot Act and a national ID
database, when the government can't even unify
the databases of foreign visitors it already
maintains?

That should be their focus - making proper use of the
databases of foreigners they already have, not creating
a new database to ensnare Americans!

Now imagine how the politicians will react, and what
they will do to us, when the next terrorist attack
occurs. The answer is obvious.

The politicians will once again use their own failure
as an excuse to take more steps in the direction of a
police state. And we will be no safer than before. We
will merely be poorer and less free.

The time to stop this cycle of government failure and
growth is now. The House believes it is through with
this issue because it has already voted. Let's disabuse
them of this notion. Let's bombard them with messages
telling them to undo what they just did.

Our campaign to stop the national ID database is
growing, minute-by-minute.

* We recruited 513 new DC Downsizers during the month
of September, but now, in only the first 12 days of
October, we've recruited 574 new DC Downsizers, and
more are coming in every hour! Remember, MoveOn
started with just 100 people.

* We sent 6,018 messages to Congress in all of
September (our previous record), but now, in a
little less than two weeks in October, we've already
sent 7,146 messages to Congress!

* Last month DC Downsizers spread the word to 525
friends, but this month, in a little over ten days,
DC Downsizers have already told 1,091 friends about
our campaigns - and this too is a new record.

* When we launched our new Electronic Lobbyist system
at DownsizeDC.org, we had 11,642 subscribers to the
Downsizer-Dispatch. As of this morning, we have
12,541 subscribers. That's a 7% increase.

Together, we're growing. Your strength is increasing.
More and more people are hearing about Downsize DC. Our
strategy is working. So let's keep pushing, and make
these numbers rise even higher.

Hit the reset button. Last week, we focused our energy
on the House. Now, we must do whatever we can to roll
back the bill in the House AND the Senate so it doesn't
reach the President's desk. That's why I'm urging
everyone who reads this message to...

* Go to www.DownsizeDC.org and send a new message
using our Electronic Lobbyist system. Tell the House
AND Senate to stop this national ID database.

* While you're there, use our "pass along" message
system to tell your friends about our campaign,
and help your Downsize DC to continue this rapid
growth.

* AND THEN STOP and make a contribution so we can
buy more radio ads - even put me on talk shows to
spread the word even further and faster. For two
weeks, we broadcast ads on 120 stations. Today,
there are none.

* Please consider making a monthly credit card pledge
to give our effort a reliable source of steady
income. We have a goal for monthly credit card
pledges of $20,000 a month. Your contribution is
our budget.

Thank you, and congratulations for helping us realize
the potential of this important new strategy to
Downsize DC. Stay tuned.

Wasted Vote?

Let's see about this wasted vote idea...

If you vote for Bush and Kerry Wins by 2 votes, did you waste your vote? I guess you did since you where not on the "winning side".

If you vote for Kerry and Bush Wins by 2 votes, did you waste your vote? I guess you did since you where not on the "winning side".

So I guess any vote for the Non-Winner is a wasted vote isn't it?

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

The only way to waste your vote is to vote for someone that you do not support, but who is "The Lesser of Two Evils", which in fact is still just that EVIL!
One of my favourite 'wasted vote' arguments is as follows:

Pretend you are in jail on death row.

You have a 48% chance of lethal injection,
You have a 48% chance of the electric chair
You have a 5% chance of a pardon

OK which would you vote for?

Statistics are crap, as are polls, they show only what they are paid to do, to sway opinion.

When are people going to understand that if We the People are going to continue to exist we need to do something different. Break the cycle of not voting for someone that upholds our beliefs, but voting against someone we think is worse.

Here is a snippet from Hellboy’s Guide to the Election by Matthew Hisrich
Choosing between a couple of candidates whose main aspirations seem to involve spending your money and spying on you hardly seems like much of a choice. As one person interviewed recently about the election comments, "Whoever is going to be President, I’m still going to have to pay taxes."

The reason that candidates take such similar positions is that in two-party politics, the median voter always wins. Across the political spectrum, average voters tend to fall in a standard bell curve on most issues. As long as there are only two candidates to choose from, the closer to the middle each candidate is, the more votes he or she will capture.

In his book Public Choice, David Johnson explains that this is simply the nature of two-party politics. "Political parties take nearly identical positions while trying to convince voters…that their policies are different."

If you know that the median voter defines every election going into the polls, though, then you know that what your particular views are matters even less than who you cast your vote for. The die has essentially already been cast.

Right up to Election Day, though, the party machines and special interest groups will be battling the perception that there really isn’t a dime’s worth of difference between the candidates.

Economist Joseph Schumpeter refers to these efforts as attempts to create a "Manufactured Will" among the people. This is because the rabid voter enthusiasm such groups tend to promote runs counter to what we have come to know about elections – our votes do not matter.

"Collectively the right to vote is extremely valuable," says Johnson, but "[t]he right to vote has little operational value to the individual, because a single vote has little probability of affecting the outcome of any election."

So is there any point in voting whatsoever? Potentially. As Johnson clarifies, the median voter model falls apart outside the confines of a two-party system.

Our Federal Government is not our savior, even though they try to promote on themselves as such. Our Federal Government it is concentrated force, pure and simple, and as such, it attracts the worst elements of the society to it.

If We the People are ignorant enough to put our lives, liberty and freedoms in the hands of those who lush for power and position over all else, then we should expect slavery and servitude as our reward. Remember those that grant privileges can revoke those privileges at their whim.

Now my political leaning are easy to see, but I am not going to try to tell anyone who to vote for, only this. Find someone that is truly aligned with your beliefs, and vote for that person.

Only by doing that can you make a difference.

Here is what they are "giving" us

Just a bit of the evil contained in PA II

H.R. 10 passed by tratiors in in D.C.

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves."

--William Pitt, speech to the House of Commons.

I bet a good number of those of you out there see no problem with THIS, but you will and very soon.

H.R. 10 was not about making anyone safer, except maybe the jobs of the Republicrats in the House and Senate, and it was very possibly the last nail in the coffin of freedom.

Think I am being melodramatic? Think again.

How are we free in any sense of the word if you cannot travel freely?

How are we free if the Federal Government can collect any information and use it anyway they care too?

How are we free when they can pass any unconstitutional law they care to?

Well it is too late now, so welcome to Slavery!
